Masterpieces from Kyoto\u2019s Hosomi Museum\u2014often described as a \u201ctextbook of Japanese art\u201d\u2014are brought together at Kyushu National Museum. Drawn from a collection built over some 80 years by three generations of the Hosomi family, the exhibition includes gold-accented Buddhist art favored by the first generation and tea ceremony kettles regarded as \u201ciron art.\u201d<\/p>\n

Also on display are works avidly collected by the second generation, including pieces by Ito Jakuchu, as well as Edo Rimpa masters such as Sakai Hoitsu and Suzuki Kiitsu. Offering a rare opportunity in Kyushu to experience the diversity of Japanese artistic expression, the exhibition is presented in two phases, with some works rotated between periods.<\/p>\n
