The event grew out of Hakata\u2019s long-standing sentomyo tradition, in which lights are offered with prayers for good health, family safety, and well-being.<\/p>\n<p>At locations including Kushida Shrine and Hakata Elementary School, thousands of lanterns are arranged to form large-scale illuminated artworks on the ground.
