This February, Atomic – the highly respected Scandinavian new jazz quintet – are coming to Fukuoka for the first time. Their explosive mix of American free-jazz and European traditional elements has brought them international recognition (they have toured in Europe, the U.S. and Japan), and drawn praise from critics all over the globe: the Guardian (UK) comments that “Free-jazz and old-school swing rarely sound more compatible than they do here”, and Peter Margasak of the Chicago Reader remarks that “I can’t think of another group that so easily merges vanguard jazz with ideas from contemporary classical music without ever sounding fussy or glib.” So don’t miss your chance to see this chameleon-like quintet live in Fukuoka.
