He worked as a coal miner for almost half a century, and received no education in the arts. But using his amazing memory, the cheapest possible paper, and children\u2019s paints, he has created evocative records of the lives and labours of the Chikuho miners. His unique technique and perspective have been said to give rise to a mixture of comfort and nostalgia. In 2011, Yamamoto\u2019s works were certified as a Memory of the World by Unesco, but, because they are so vulnerable to damage, they are rarely seen. Now they are receiving their grandest display yet, being shown alongside videos and other materials, all designed to help viewers fully understand the atmosphere from which his works were born. For the last week of this exhibit, we have one pair of tickets to give away.
