This exhibition introduces the history of recreational fishing in Japan and its accompanying philosophy. One of the highlights is a 400-year-old painting on <em>byobu<\/em> (paper screen) of people fishing in Kyoto, and a separate painting by Hokusai. Other displays include the world\u2019s first spinning reel and Japan\u2019s oldest <em>gyotaku<\/em> (fish print with <em>sumi<\/em> ink).
