Buddhism has a long history in Thailand and its practices have permeated all aspects of daily life. As such sacred Buddhist treasures are held in high regard and are often never seen outside the country. To celebrate the 130th anniversary of the friendship between Thailand and Japan, that rule is about to be broken. The Kyushu National Museum will have a special exhibition showcasing these sacred treasures. Be sure to notice how the expressions of Buddha compare to the ones in Japan and the how the differences have been influenced by India and Sri Lanka. The main feature of the exhibit will be the 5.6 m tall door whose sculpture work was done by King Rama II himself.

Photo: 仏陀坐像サワンカウォーラナーヨック国立博物館

• 4/11 (Tue.) ~ 6/4 (Sun.)
