Small and medium-sized vehicles are to be integrated into the normal car category, with the initial starting fare rising by ¥10 to ¥580. In addition, the late night rate period (20% surcharge) which previously began at 23:00, now starts one hour earlier at 22:00. The Kyushu District Transport Bureau has said that the rise in fuel and cost of paying staff are behind the first increase in the area for ten years. Taxi drivers are reportedly earning around 30% less than other industries, which has led to a shortage in people entering the profession. Source: TVQ Kyushu Broadcasting, 8/1/2017

Disclaimer: Fukuoka Now posts summaries of Kyushu area related news for the benefit of those who cannot read Japanese.
