Ltd. have achieved their target of 50,000 customers for electricity across Fukuoka, Nagasaki, and Kumamoto prefectures four months ahead of schedule. This follows the liberalization of the Japanese electricity and gas markets in April 2016 (prior to this date regional power companies would usually hold a monopoly in the area they were based). Since the changes to the market went into effect, Saibu and Kyushu Electric Power Co., Inc. (Kyuden) have been battling it out to attract customers. Both companies have been offering discounts to households who use their company as a primary supplier of gas and electricity.
