The prize is given annually to individuals and organizations that have contributed to culture in the city. The four individuals recognized for 2018 were Naoki Award-winning writer Akira Higashiyama, author of \u201cYama Yo Hashire\u201d Takashi Yano, music director of the Kyushu Symphony Orchestra Kazuhiro Koizumi, and acclaimed dancer Nobuo Harada.
