The management of the facility looks set to be awarded to Fukuoka Airport Holdings, which was established by a group of businesses based in the region, including Kyushu Electric Power (Kyuden) and Nishi-Nippon Railroad Co., Ltd., (Nishitetsu). The bid was viewed favorably due to the scale of the ¥300 billion offer and the inclusion of plans to strengthen the airport’s links to the local area. A total of three separate syndicates advanced to the second round of screening, but bids from two other consortiums, led by Daiwa House Industry Co., Ltd. and Tokyo Tatemono Co., Ltd., were ultimately not chosen. The lease will last 30 years and the money gained from selling off the rights to operate the facility will be used to improve infrastructure including building a new runway. Source: Mainichi Shimbun, 5/16/2018

Photo provided by the City of Fukuoka

Disclaimer: Fukuoka Now posts summaries of Kyushu area related news for the benefit of those who cannot read Japanese.
