On June 8, the US Consulate in Fukuoka hosted its second annual US-Japan Friendship Cocktail Contest in which nine finalists representing bars from Osaka to Kagoshima prepared cocktails they conceived to celebrate the unique bilateral friendship between the two nations.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s theme was American Whiskey, and so each cocktail used an American whiskey as its base. And to give it a taste of friendship, the mixologists were encouraged to incorporate local ingredients characteristic of the Kyushu-Yamaguchi region.<\/p>\n

Ms. Ayano Yoshimoto (BAR The Castilian Room, Hotel New Otani Hakata) took first prize with her cocktail named \u201cSparkle Dream\u201d. Served in a glass with a decorative coating her colorful concoction was made with Maker\u2019s Mark whiskey, Aphrodite, Bols Blue, fresh grapefruit, and Mitsuya Cider. \u201cSparkle Dream\u201d will be featured at upcoming the Consulate\u2019s annual Independence Day reception.<\/p>\n
