The local government plans to provide financial subsidies to help move people who are in temporary accommodation since the torrential downpours that hit northern Kyushu in the summer of 2017. The Fukuoka prefectural governor and assembly elections will be held this April, which means that the proposed budget is still at a provisional stage. Toho Village and Asakura City residents who lost their homes due to the heavy rainfall have been in temporary accommodation since that time. A total of 841 people (350 households) are currently living in prefabricated housing across these two areas. The prefecture plans to dedicate approximately ¥1.4 billion of funding to help secure new housing for those affected. Source: Asahi Shimbun, 1/30/2019

Photo: UKIHA Information Center

Disclaimer: Fukuoka Now posts summaries of Kyushu area related news for the benefit of those who cannot read Japanese.
