On May 8, The Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare released revised guidelines for people experiencing suspicious symptoms of new coronavirus infection to follow before contacting medical institutions. The stipulation of \u201chigh fever (37.5\u00b0C~)\u201d and symptoms lasting for more than four days\u201d has been cut from protocol, resulting in more straightforward criteria for people to consult with medical offices and public health centers. Those who experience loss of taste and smell are also advised to contact such facilities. Meanwhile, NTT Docomo data showed increased visitors to the areas of Tenjin and Hakata on May 7. The first weekday after Golden Week saw a 50 ~ 55% decline in the number of people who visited downtown compared to average weekdays before Apr. 7. As the data reflects a more relaxed mood of self-restraint amidst residents, the governors of prefectures in Kyushu and Okinawa held an online meeting. They agreed to continually request people to refrain from traveling outside of their prefectures except for urgent matters to prevent a second wave of infections.
