Since the city began accepting online applications for the national ¥100,000 payout program, many people swarm to the offices to reissue PIN codes for their ‘My Number Cards.’ Approximately 3,600 people visited those offices within three days (between May 4 ~ 6). The crowded environment is raising concerns about the possible spreading of the new coronavirus. The city advises people to use mail application forms, which is scheduled to be sent out from May 15. The ward offices may close early in case there are too many visitors. Also, reissuing of the PIN-code could take a few days due to the nationwide influx of such applications. Similarly, regional labor offices are facing increasing numbers of visitors applying for the national employment adjustment subsidies. The use of mail and online applications are strongly advised for all applicable processes.
