The smartphone application uses Bluetooth signals and records close contact with others while protecting privacy. Users receive app notifications when one of those who came into close contact in the past 14 days change their status as \u201ctested positive.\u201d The system was developed by Japan\u2019s Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare, collaborating with a technology-task team. The software can be downloaded from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mhlw.go.jp\/stf\/seisakunitsuite\/bunya\/cocoa_00138.html\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.
