The national program selects municipalities that pursue Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) based on seventeen criteria, such as preserving ecosystems and efforts to solve climate changes. The Cabinet highly valued Munakata\u2019s efforts to continue traditions through the conservation of Munakata Taisha (designated as UNESCO World Heritage) and other natural and historical assets. It was the fourth such designation in Fukuoka Prefecture.
