The September festival is considered one of \u2018Hakata\u2019s three grand festivals,\u2019 and attracts more than a million visitors to Hakozaki Shrine annually. Reflecting on the lingering risks of the novel coronavirus, the shrine decided to cancel the crowd-gathering event for the first time since World War II. The <em>Shinto<\/em> rituals related to Hojoya will be conducted amongst the shrine priests and other limited supporters.
