The city\u2019s population was 1,613,361 as of Oct. 2020, marking an increase of 74,680 compared to five years ago. The population growth rate in neighboring Fukutsu City also reached 14.2% and marked the most rapid in Fukuoka Prefecture. While twenty-two cities and towns in the prefecture saw population increases, thirty-eight other municipalities now have fewer people than five years ago.
