Just after 9:00 a.m. March 17, the Fukuoka District Meteorological Observatory in Chuo Ward, Fukuoka City, confirmed five blossoms on a sample somei Yoshino cherry tree, which is used to determine when cherry trees have bloomed or not. With that observation, Fukuoka City became the first area of Japan to (officially) have cherry trees in bloom. The office predicts a full bloom lasting seven to ten days, with most trees coming into bloom at once. Looking for a place to see the trees?
