The newly formed organization, “Ukraine Refugee Support Liaison and Coordination Council,” with a secretariat in the prefecture office, will coordinate with all municipalities in the Prefecture to smoothly accept evacuees from Ukraine. The Prefecture will assign a Ukrainian staff member to the “Prefectural Foreign Residents Counseling Center” and dispatch volunteer interpreters to strengthen support for evacuees. In addition, a free Japanese language class will be offered to evacuees. Meanwhile, the Prefecture reports that the fundraising started last month to support Ukraine has raised more than 14.8 million yen as of the end of last month. The funds will be used for local humanitarian assistance through the Japanese Red Cross Society. Source: NHK

Get Fukuoka & Kyushu area news and events in English reliably. Sign up for our free weekly newsletter.
