Approximately 70 police officers and JR West employees participated in the joint training. The training assumed that explosives had been planted next to a bench on the Fukuoka Shinkansen platform. A police officer, who rushed to the scene in response to a report of a “suspicious bag,” confirmed that a wire was extending from the bag, and requested backup from the police department’s “explosives response unit.” JR West employees then informed passengers on the platform to move away, while officers wearing protective clothing used X-rays to confirm that the contents of the bag were indeed explosive. They then placed the bag in a special container and carried it away. Source: NHK

Get Fukuoka & Kyushu area news and events in English regularly. Sign up for our free weekly newsletter.
