The “Red Alien Fire Ant” is an ant native to the southern United States and other regions. While its venom is not as strong as that of the “Asian Needle Ant,” it can cause severe pain, swelling, and potentially even anaphylactic shock if stung. This was the seventh confirmed case in Fukuoka Prefecture, and the ant was found during an insect survey conducted as part of an environmental survey in Asakura City last October. The Ministry of the Environment plans to conduct additional surveys from the end of April to May, when the “Red Alien Fire Ant” is more likely to be found. Source: Asakura City / RKB

Get Fukuoka & Kyushu area news and events in English regularly. Sign up for our free weekly newsletter.
