The train’s name and design details are yet to be determined, with Kagoshima-based design firm IFOO leading the design. The three-car train will feature a lounge in its second car, and the first and third cars, functioning as seating areas, are expected to accommodate approximately 60 passengers. The new D&S train will run the Kurume (Fukuoka City) – Oita (Oita City) route from Hakata Station, taking about five hours to reach Yufuin/Beppu Station with one round trip per day. Other D&S trains operating along the same route include ‘Yufuin no Mori’ and ‘Aru Ressha.’ Compared to the ‘Yufuin no Mori,’ which makes three round trips per day and takes about three hours each way between Hakata and Beppu Stations, the new train’s schedule allows for a more leisurely journey. The new train will be a renovation of the ‘Isaburo/Shinpei’ train, which used to run on the Hohi Line that is currently out of service due to damage from heavy rains. Source: JR Kyushu

Stay informed with the latest Fukuoka & Kyushu news and events in English.
