The disruption followed an incident where a video of a customer putting free tempura bits, known as tenkasu, into their mouth using a communal spoon, was widely circulated on social media.

The individuals referred for prosecution are a 22-year-old construction worker and a 28-year-old company employee, both residing in Kitakyushu City. According to police investigations, in late January this year, at a Suke-San Udon outlet in Kokura Kita ward, one individual ate free tempura bits with a communal spoon, while the other recorded the act and posted it on social media. This action is seen to have disrupted the restaurant and company’s operations, leading to suspicion of forcible obstruction of business.

The video spread on social media from late January to February. The management company took steps like washing the containers and filed a damage report, prompting police to proceed with investigations. The construction worker visited the police station in early February, expressing surprise at the incident going viral on the internet.

During voluntary questioning, they admitted to the allegations, apologizing profusely and explaining that they were drunk and wanted to amuse the other person. Source: NHK

Photo from Photo AC

Stay informed with the latest Fukuoka & Kyushu news and events in English.
