Fukuoka City has become home to “Japan Base,” the first dedicated training facility for the Japanese national rugby team. A grand opening ceremony was held at the new base to commemorate its completion. Situated in Fukuoka’s Higashi Ward, Japan Base stretches across approximately 54,000 square meters and features two playing grounds. It’s a first-of-its-kind domestic training hub for Japan’s rugby squad.<\/span><\/p>\n

The opening ceremony was attended by around 50 stakeholders, including Jamie Joseph, the head coach of the men’s national rugby team. The celebration featured the planting of a cherry blossom tree, inspired by the emblem on the left chest of the team’s jersey. The facility provides a dining area that serves nutritionally balanced meals for the athletes, and the accommodations are equipped with four types of pillows of varying firmness and size. This contributes to an environment conducive to focusing on the sport.
