Under the fare system adopted by most operators, the base fare has increased by 100 yen to 670 yen. The Kyushu Transport Bureau has stated that the fare increase affects Fukuoka City and 15 surrounding cities and towns, with 95 operators implementing new rates. This marks the first increase in Fukuoka’s taxi fares in two years and seven months. The goal is to improve working conditions for drivers as there is a current shortage, in an attempt to secure more staff.

Most operators are now charging 670 yen for the first kilometer, up from the previous 570 yen, under a system that allows them to set fares for a shorter starting distance. The maximum fare for regular taxis has also been increased from 750 yen for 1.6 kilometers to 830 yen. Source: NHK

Stay informed with the latest Fukuoka & Kyushu news and events in English.
