According to the economic watcher survey (street corner economy) announced by Japan’s Cabinet Office on August 8th, the current economic sentiment index (DI, seasonally adjusted) for the seven prefectures of Kyushu rose 1.2 points from the previous month to 56.8. This marks a 4-month high since March, surpassing the critical 50-point mark for the 11th consecutive month. Tourism activity has increased, contributing to the improved economic sentiment.<\/p>\n
The survey included observations such as “Inbound (visitors to Japan) are increasing, and we notice them shopping across multiple stores” (department store) and “A decline in raw materials due to bird flu has settled down, and factory production is progressing smoothly” (agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector).<\/p>\n
Okinawa Prefecture saw a 1.0-point rise to 62.3, with comments such as “Visitor numbers and sales have significantly increased due to cruise ships arriving from the Asian region” (convenience store).<\/p>\n
The leading index for the economic outlook 2-3 months ahead saw a rise of 0.8 points to 55.5 in Kyushu, and 3.2 points to 62.9 in Okinawa.
