The new policy will balance regular and COVID-19 healthcare by only setting up dedicated beds for COVID-19 during infection surges. This follows the reclassification of the virus to Category 5 under Japan&#8217;s Infectious Diseases Law in May, which led to an expansion of facilities treating COVID-19. The current strategy of reducing dedicated beds will end this September.
