JR Kyushu announced that for the six months up to September this year, the group’s overall financial results showed increased revenue and profit, with a record high final profit for an interim financial statement. According to the announcement, JR Kyushu’s group revenue from April to September increased by 12% compared to the same period last year, reaching 190.7 billion yen, with a final profit that more than doubled to 27.9 billion yen. The transition of COVID-19’s infectious disease classification to Category 5 and the recovery in the number of passengers contributed to the increased revenue and profit, resulting in a record interim final profit. President Yoji Furumiya of JR Kyushu mentioned at a press conference that “things are generally going smoothly,” while acknowledging that revenue from medium to long-distance railway services such as the Kyushu Shinkansen is a challenge.
