Fukuoka Airport’s operating company, which faced annual financial deficits over the past four years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is poised to receive a significant government grant of around 1 billion yen. This grant is targeted to upgrade facilities and enhance user convenience, aligning with the airport’s ongoing recovery and expected rise in passenger traffic.<\/span><\/p>\n

Despite full privatization in 2019, Fukuoka Airport encountered revenue losses triggered by the pandemic, compelling Fukuoka International Airport Co., Ltd. to report losses for four straight years. However, a steady recovery in flight and passenger numbers has been observed recently. Furthermore, the anticipated commencement of a second runway in March 2025 is projected to boost passenger traffic further.<\/span><\/p>\n

Currently, the airport is undergoing expansions, including a new parking lot. This fiscal year, it’s slated to receive the grant from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism, aiming to improve facilities and passenger experience.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This funding will facilitate the introduction of “Smart Lanes” at security checkpoints, enabling passengers to undergo checks without removing laptops and liquids from their luggage, thereby easing congestion.
