At least three groups, including consortia led by Kyushu Electric Power Group, JR Kyushu, and local supermarket giant Trial, have submitted proposals. The project, which is considered one of Japan’s largest from-scratch developments, covers an area equivalent to seven PayPay Domes (50 hectares). While Kyushu Electric Power Group is keen on constructing an arena, JR Kyushu’s consortium focuses on IT-driven urban development. The redevelopment plan, centering around the vacated university campus, aims to enhance the city’s function through advanced technology and energy efficiency, forming a “Smart City.” Kyushu University will narrow down to a single developer in April 2024 after careful evaluation of the proposals. Source: NHK

Stay informed with the latest Fukuoka & Kyushu news and events in English.
