Highlighting the site’s significant value, they are set to request the city for its full preservation. Discovered last year at a planned construction site in Moji District, the remnants include red bricks and the foundation of an engine shed, dating back to the station’s 1891 inauguration. While the city plans to relocate part of the relics, ICOMOS advocates for a comprehensive preservation strategy, urging a reconsideration of partial relocation decisions in favor of more extensive investigations to inform the overall plan for the area. Source: NHK

Stay informed with the latest Fukuoka & Kyushu news and events in English.
