Okinawa, previously experiencing natural population growth until 2021, recorded a 7.5% decline to 13,088 births, marking its second consecutive year of natural population decrease. All prefectures in the Kyushu-Okinawa region witnessed a decline in births, with Nagasaki and Miyazaki facing the highest reduction rates at 9.0% each. The region’s death numbers further exacerbate the demographic challenge, highlighting a pressing need for strategies to reverse this trend. Source: Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare

Stay informed with the latest Fukuoka & Kyushu news and events in English.
