Starting in February 2025, the program will match volunteers with care facilities through an online platform. Unlike traditional caregiving roles, the program focuses on auxiliary tasks such as meal preparation, serving, and assisting with recreational activities. Participants will be compensated as paid volunteers, contributing to care services in a non-medical capacity.

The initiative is part of the city’s effort to bolster its caregiving workforce and build a community-based support system for the elderly. Kitakyushu Mayor Kazuhisa Takeuchi emphasized the importance of sharing caregiving responsibilities to strengthen the local care infrastructure. Plus Robo’s CEO Ryohei Suzuki also highlighted that the program is designed to engage residents without formal caregiving qualifications, offering them a way to contribute based on their skills. Source: Kitakyushu City / Sketter

Photo from Mayor Kazuhisa Takeuchi official X

Stay informed with the latest Fukuoka & Kyushu news and events in English.
