The project, spearheaded by Japanet Holdings CEO Akito Takata, aims to create a city where excitement and extraordinary experiences become the norm. Takata emphasized his vision to revitalize Nagasaki by increasing both the population and opportunities for families.

Located just 10 minutes from Nagasaki Station, the 7.5-hectare site was redeveloped at a cost of ¥100 billion. In addition to the stadium, the complex includes the Stadium City Hotel Nagasaki (243 rooms), a 6,000-seat arena for the Nagasaki Velca basketball team, and shopping and office spaces. The development model, led entirely by a private company, is rare in Japan, drawing attention as a potential blueprint for urban revitalization through sports.

The grand opening ceremony featured notable attendees, including Saburo Kawabuchi, head of the Japan Top League Alliance, who praised the project as an ideal vision for future sports and city development. The event was filled with festivities, including performances by local high school bands, dance shows, and traditional Nagasaki cultural displays such as the “Dragon Dance” and “Shachi Drum.”

The new development has been met with enthusiasm from locals, but challenges remain, especially in sustaining vibrancy beyond the limited number of annual sports events. Japanet CEO Takata stressed the importance of creating a sustainable business model that supports the local economy. Source: Nagasaki Stadium City / KTN

Photo from Nagasaki Stadium City official X

Stay informed with the latest Fukuoka & Kyushu news and events in English.
