The selection was announced on January 15 during the 172nd Akutagawa and Naoki Prize meeting in Tokyo.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Originally from Fukushima Prefecture, Suzuki debuted as a writer after earning an honorable mention for the Hayashi Fumiko Literary Prize with the short story How Many Books Does a Person Need? last year while still an undergraduate. Currently studying English literature in graduate school, Suzuki balances academic research with writing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This was Suzuki\u2019s first nomination for the Akutagawa Prize. The award-winning novel follows a professor researching the works of Goethe.
