A 35-meter-long historical timeline, \u201cTenjin History Timeline,\u201d will be installed along the eastern outer wall of the underground passage in ONE FUKUOKA BLDG., set to open on April 24. The exhibit, open to the public from February 22, chronicles Tenjin\u2019s transformation from its origins in 1612, when Fukuoka\u2019s first feudal lord, Nagamasa Kuroda, relocated Suikyo Tenmangu Shrine, marking the beginning of the area known as Tenjin.<\/span><\/p>\n

The timeline, supervised by modern history researcher Keiichiro Masuda, visually presents Tenjin\u2019s growth with rare photographs and historical maps, covering key milestones such as the opening of Fukuoka Prefectural Government Offices during the Meiji era, the expansion of major roads like Meiji-dori and Watanabe-dori, and the launch of tram services by Fukuhaku Electric Railway and Hakata Electric Railway. It also highlights the post-war era, which saw Tenjin develop into Kyushu\u2019s largest commercial and business district.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to the static display, a large digital screen will showcase the area\u2019s evolution from 2000 onward through video content. Nishitetsu, which is leading this initiative, aims to preserve Tenjin\u2019s urban heritage and inspire appreciation for its ongoing transformation under the Tenjin Big Bang redevelopment project. The timeline is expected to attract visitors, encouraging them to reflect on Tenjin\u2019s rich history while anticipating its future.<\/span><\/p>\n
