The story follows his great-great-grandmother, Haranishi Tsubasa, a Japanese woman who emigrated to Singapore during the Meiji era in search of freedom. The period drama is being shot at the historic former Koga residence, built in 1884. Mahfuz chose Saga for its resemblance to rural Southeast Asia and personal ties to his Japanese ancestry. The 10-episode series, titled <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Haranishi <\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zubaidah<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, will air on Singapore\u2019s national broadcaster Mediacorp next year.
