One was later confirmed dead after being pulled from about three meters underwater; the other remains conscious. They had been exploring tidal rocks with four friends when the incident occurred. According to a witness, the boys had ventured into deeper waters where footing was difficult. The beach, located 500 meters west of Mitoma Station, has no lifeguards or watch personnel.
