The change affects 54 corporate taxi firms and 196 individual operators in Kitakyushu City, Nakama City, and Onga District. The distance for each \u00a580 fare increment has also been shortened from 280 to 253 meters. The hike\u2014the first since September 2022\u2014aims to offset higher fuel costs and improve driver working conditions. Currently, driver numbers are 80% of pre-pandemic levels, with about 40% aged 70 or older.
