Production of general, industrial, and business machinery\u2014including semiconductor manufacturing equipment\u2014dropped 5.3% as some shipments were postponed to the following month. Metal products decreased 9.9%, while steel and nonferrous metals fell 4.0%, partly due to heavy rains in August that damaged regional infrastructure and delayed factory restarts, despite limited direct damage to production sites.
