In New Year interviews, Furumiya said Saga Station offered strong convenience as a hub for conventional rail lines and city bus services, making it accessible from across the prefecture. The West Kyushu Shinkansen opened between Takeo-Onsen and Nagasaki in September 2022, but plans for the section linking Takeo-Onsen and Shin-Tosu remain undecided, including cost-sharing by Saga Prefecture. Furumiya said direct Shinkansen connections to Honshu could significantly expand Saga’s economic reach and said talks with national and prefectural governments were moving gradually forward. Source: NHK / Yomiuri

Photo: Fukuoka Now, for image purposes only

Stay informed with the latest Fukuoka & Kyushu news and events in English.
