The plant, idle since January 2020, was officially shut down on December 31, 2025, due to aging equipment. Opened in 2004 as Japan\u2019s first commercial binary geothermal facility, it began full operations in 2006 with a 2,000-kilowatt output. The plant also served as a demonstration site for low-temperature geothermal technology using heat sources below 150\u00b0C.
