Police and fire officials said the accident occurred shortly before midnight in the Kusubashi area. The car, which was carrying more passengers than its capacity, left the left side of a straight, one-lane road, went down an embankment, and overturned on the riverbed. A teenage girl believed to have been seated in the rear suffered severe chest injuries and was taken to hospital unconscious, where she died about two and a half hours later. The other four occupants were conscious and sustained minor injuries.
