Customers leave smartphones and other electronic devices in lockers on arrival, making room for conversation and a break from screens. Bento maker Tochikuken funded the opening in a collaboration with the University of Kitakyushu. Thirty-six students studying regional development are involved in running the cafe, with responsibilities divided among four teams including recipe development and publicity. Their ideas include pasta made with champon noodles and coffee that customers grind and brew themselves.
