The aim of the move, which was made possible by recent revisions to the National Strategic Special Zone Act, is to add more nursery school capacity in the city\u2019s urban core. City Hall has budgeted \u00a5140 million in fiscal 2016 to subsidize the construction of the facility, which is expected to provide service for up to 90 children. It is slated to open in April 2017. Despite the City\u2019s best efforts to reduce nursery school waiting lists, Hakata Ward currently has 76 children waiting to get into nursery school\u2014the most of any of Fukuoka\u2019s seven wards.
