Originally opened in 1981, Sun Palace consists of an event hall and hotel. Under the plan, the new facility will serve as the \u201cgateway\u201d to the Waterfront. It will house a hotel and a 2,322-seat hall, and the City\u2019s slated Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) road system will pass through the site to connect Marine Messe to Tenjin and Hakata. Fukuoka has ranked number two in Japan in the number of international conferences hosted for six years running, and it aims to respond to increased demand for conferences and other large-scale events with the new facility. The City\u2019s plan will be finalized by the end of March, after it\u2019s received construction proposals from various companies.
