Get Familiar with Hakata by Eating!<\/strong>
\nFukuoka Fukutabi is a hands-on program produced by Fukuoka City that helps you to get more familiar with Fukuoka and uncover the hidden charms of the city. The limited winter programs are Hakata Saba-zukushi Course (\u201cEnjoy Hakata mackerel\u201d course) in which you can enjoy fresh raw mackerel, one of the specialties of Hakata, and Umai Hakata Marugoto Shoku-taiken (\u201cEat all the delicious specialties of Hakata\u201d course) which includes seven Hakata specialties. \nThe Fukuoka Tourism Convention Bureau is looking for foreign language-capable volunteers to serve as interpreters and guides for overseas visitors to Fukuoka City. Volunteers must be 18 or older, live in the urban area, and have conversational ability in Chinese or Korean in addition to Japanese. Calling All Volunteers<\/strong>
\nThe 24th annual Asian-Pacific Children\u2019s Convention in Fukuoka is currently looking for all-aged volunteers. Volunteer activities are varied, including the support of attendants coming to Fukuoka from Asian-Pacific countries and regions, planning and management of an intermixing camp, interpreting, translating, and more. Libraries to Temporarily Close<\/strong>
\nAll Fukuoka City libraries will temporarily close to reorganize their books and to inspect equipment. The Wajiro, Hakata, Chuo, Jonan, and Nishi libraries will close from February 6 ~ 16, and the Higashi, Hakata Minami, Minami, Sawara, and Seibu branches from February 20 ~ March 1. For details contact the Fukuoka City Public Library at either 092-852-0600 (telephone) or 092-852-0609 (fax).<\/p>\n

Fukuoka Challenge Walk<\/strong>
\nThe Fukuoka Challenge Walk is a 25-kilometer walking event from Maizuru Park to Shikanoshima. It is not a race, so anyone can join and enjoy at your comfortable walking pace. Disabled persons and pre-school children must be accompanied. The fee is \u00a51,400, and \u00a5900 for the disabled and children under 18. To apply, first request the event application form by phone (092-717-5651), fax (092-717-5652), e-mail (fea-info@buz.bbiq.jp), or regular mail (Fukuoka Challenge Walk Contest Committee, 2-4-4-404 Kusagae, Chuo-ku) and then send the completed form by Feburary 21 (deadline).
