The company plans to hire several hundred people in the first year to answer customers\u2019 e-mails and phone calls. This will be Amazon\u2019s third center in Japan after Sapporo (opened in 2001) and Sendai (opened in 2012). According to an Amazon spokesperson, the company chose Fukuoka because the city is home to \u201cmany people who want to work locally for the long term\u201d and \u201cmany people who can speak foreign languages\u201d.
