The 20.4km link will complete the connection between Oita and Miyazaki cities and reduce total travel time by 20 minutes to 2 hours and 50 minutes. The national government and the prefectures of Oita and Miyazaki spent \u00a5 77.6 billion to complete the new section of road which will be toll-free. They also built an interchange (Saiki-Katata) halfway between Saiki and Kamae in response to local demands. When complete, the Higashi-Kyushu Highway will run 436km from Kitakyushu through Oita and Miyazaki to Kajiki in Kagoshima. About 70% of the road is complete, as of December 2014. The missing links between Kitakyushu and Miyazaki are Shiida-Minami to Buzen in Fukuoka Prefecture (slated to open in the spring of 2016) and Buzen to Usa, Oita Prefecture (slated to open before the end of fiscal 2014).
